From the Rector - 3rd May

Dear Friends

Firstly a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed to all we have done this week, especially those involved in the service this morning, hope you enjoyed it and found it helpful.

If you have not seen it yet, you can watch it here. You can find my sermon here; if you know of anyone who cannot get online please print it off and put a copy through their door, equally if you know of anyone who would like a DVD please let me know.

Secondly thank you to everyone who has supported Jo in her efforts for WaterAid she raised just over £2000 a brilliant effort, thanks everyone 😇

Thirdly, Why do I need your help? You have been brilliant in supporting both Water Aid and the Syrian refugees appeal. It is now time for me to ask for your help for our Church. This week a number of Dioceses have furloughed Priests, Deacons and other Ministers because of financial difficulties caused by lack of income as a result of Covid 19 and I know that our own Diocese has furloughed some staff at Hillside House. Although our churches are closed there are still bills to pay and our own income has also been greatly reduced, with no services, no fundraisers and with Weddings, Baptisms and Funerals not being allowed in church, there is a real  impact on our fee income etc.

On Saturday 16th May I will undertake a 'Prayer Walk' through our Communities, beginning at St Michael's with morning prayer. I will then walk through our communities (social distancing at all times) to pray at the other 3 Churches of our Benefice. I would ask that you do two things to support me. One is to pray with me at the approx times scheduled below and secondly to sponsor me in my efforts by either sending a cheque to the Rectory made out to the Church you are giving to (i.e. All Saints Winterbourne Down), or make a BACS payment to the Benefice account with the reference being the name of the Church you are supporting (details Below) and we will make sure the money gets transferred over.

I am truly grateful to those of you who have maintained your regular stewardship during this crisis, it is very much appreciated, and I have also been overwhelmed by the contributions for the two Charities we have supported. I do hope that you can support me now and sponsor my efforts to raise money for our Churches which have strived to serve you all at this time and will be working hard to meet the needs of all in our communities in the 'Post Lockdown' era. I appreciate some of you may not be in a position to support my efforts financially, please don't worry your prayers will keep me going! 🙏

Finally, next Friday (8th May) is VE day as you will have seen from Fr David's letter and resources. On top of this four of our Ministry Team will be praying the office of morning prayer at 9am on that day in each of our churches, interceding for Peace in our World, for Our Nation, for the fight to defeat Covid 19  and for all of you. Please do give them a thought at that time and hold them in your prayers.

God Bless and all take care out there

Fr Malcolm
